| Much of the success of a painting is established before you ever touch brush to canvas or pastel to paper. Taking time to think and plan will result in consistently better work. We will explore the elements that make up a painting and learn how to improve each one. Topics include choosing subject matter, finding a point of view, arranging the elements (composition), developing a strong value structure, enhancing the focal point, making color decisions, and many other design principles. This is not a purely theoretical class! You will engage in many hands-on exercises that will enhance your artwork and help you express yourself more confidently.
